Contraverse was founded by Josh Gonsalves, a game designer and filmmaker who had the revolutionary idea of breaking through the television screen to feel what it would be like to be part of the movie, and become the character in the movies we watch. Our humble beginnings started at Ryerson University's RTA School of Media as a thesis project aimed to pioneer cinematic virtual reality storytelling. After a successful Indiegogo campaign we independently produced three short experiences that pushed the boundaries of storytelling in VR. Once completed, we found that the infrastructure for Cinematic VR was not nearly at the level we had hoped for and had trouble sharing these stories with the world. We decided to take a step further and develop technologies and methods to power VR cinemas and apps for digital distribution to share the characters, stories, and worlds we create. We continue to evolve the cinema industry with immersive technologies and compelling immersive content.
